DISCRIPTION

Indian sandstone lintel dipicting Lakhsmi goddess of wealth and prosperity with two elephants symbolizing the name and fame associated with wordly wealth. The elephants spraying water from the golden vessel on the goddess illustrate the theme that continuous self-effort, in accordance with one's dharma and govement by wisdom and purity, leads to both material and spiritual prosperity. South India (Tamil) 10th early Chola to 13th century Pandya revival period.
