DISCRIPTION

Koto katana signed "Bishu Ju Osafune Sukesada" Hawleys SUK795/798. According to Hawleys, later Sukesada signed "Bizen" therefore this sword dates no later than 1558. Hada is Mokome. Hamon based on midare/notare. In good polish with plenty of activity. The boshi has come out particulary good due to hakikake. There is some closed ware in the shinogi ji on one side on the same side there are some kizu that are very acceptable for a blade of that age. Edo period shirasaya , probably belonged to an other blade at some time, this to the refitting of the mekugi hole. This sword comes with a midd Edo period saya that has been restored to his full glory in the original Japanese lacquer technique and wooden tsunagi blade. a early Edo to late Momoyama period tsuka with quality kashira and fuchi. Hizen school iron Sukashi tsuba, Ho-O (firebird) design with NBHTK Hozon papers.
